About Me

My photo
Powder Matt

I am a self proclaimed lover of the mountains and the outdoor life! I spend most of my time enjoying the mountains, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, canoe tripping, climbing, backpacking and backcountry skiing. I have been in the mountain resort industry all of my life- from ski racing, professional ski coach to marketing professional in the mountain resort industry with current job of Vice President of Resorts of the Canadian Rockies. I have worked for major outdoor retailer, REI, where I did some product testing. I Love Mountain Equipment COOP (MEC) and one of the best outdoor gear companies is Outdoor Research (OR) One of my hobbies when out enjoying an outdoor adventure is to test the latest in outdoor and mountain gear for the Calgary Herald and Vancouver Sun, My most favorite adventures happen with my family on weekend camping, backpacking and canoe trips in the Canadian Rockies. I continue to strive to push my Adventure and Life limits, like entering and finishing, what some say is the world's toughest Winter Adventure Race, the Yukon Challenge. An 1800 mile cross country, running, dog-sledding, multi sport event from Whitehorse to above the Arctic Circle in January. Part of the entertainment is that you have to sleep outside every night and endure the 40 to 60 below temps. A recent highlight was being a torch bearer for the 2010 Winter Olympics. I have much to be thankful for- family, life, passion (work). I am constantly focused on seeing the positive in every step of life. Even if those steps involve a Mother Grizzly Bear- as I am one of the few people to survive a Grizzly attack on skis.
